Tailored Fiber Placement (TFP) is a computer-controlled, precise placement of reinforcing fibers on a substrate material. The fibers are precisely positioned and fixed along defined paths, typically load paths. This load-path-optimized fiber placement allows material to be strategically placed where forces occur and mechanical loads exist. Unlike conventional methods such as prepreg lamination or tape laying, Tailored Fiber Placement allows for curved, branched, and locally densified fiber paths. This results in a material-efficient structure with optimal force transmission.
